If you have ever driven a truck camper down the highway with a crosswind pushing on it, you know the feeling of both hands locked on the wheel while the whole rig sways back and forth. Top heavy loads like campers and salt spreaders need more stability than a standard towing or hauling setup can give, and that is the job Timbren's Severe Service Kit was built to do. It uses a single-convoluted Aeon rubber spring that resists weight more aggressively than the standard Timbren spring, which keeps your RAM 3500 level and your ride smoother under a heavy, high-riding load. The springs have a progressive rate, so they push back harder as the load increases, and that works against squat, sway, and roll. When the camper is off or the spreader is empty, the springs sit with a gap above the frame, so the truck still rides comfortably instead of feeling stiff. There is nothing to maintain after installation, and unlike air bags there are no lines or pressure to keep an eye on. Timbren says you can install the kit and get back to work in under 30 minutes, right from your driveway. For anyone hauling a load that sits high and wants a steadier highway drive, this kit gives the rear of the truck real support.
The Timbren DRTT3500D is a rear severe service SES kit engineered for 2011-2026 RAM 3500 trucks in 4WD and 2WD configurations, along with Ram 3500 Cab and Chassis models. It is built around two patented Aeon SES suspensions, which are hollow rubber springs that use a single-convoluted design made for applications like truck campers and salt spreaders. The kit is rated for 8,000 pounds of capacity. Kit height is 6.25 inches without the 1 inch spacer and 7.25 inches with it, and the two 1 inch rubber spacers are included in the box along with two steel mounting brackets and all necessary hardware. After installation, there should be a gap of 1/2 inch to 1 1/2 inches between the rubber spring and the vehicle frame, which is what gives you a comfortable ride when the truck is unloaded. The system needs no post-installation maintenance, and it is made of rubber rather than foam, which Timbren says holds up under all loads and in any weather. Adding this kit increases the spring rate but does not increase the truck's Gross Vehicle Weight Rating, so the load must never exceed the GVWR set by the manufacturer.
