Much like the design of the factory ball joint, this one has pin and housing, but the "hat" of the pin contacts the housing rather staying apart like the factory unit. Having this design adds a second wear surface for further distributing the lateral load on the ball joint, while also ensuring the pin cannot be pulled through the bottom of the point of failure. Another difference is in the size of the upper cavity, which is enlarged to allow for larger grease reserves. The threaded cap allows for access to the cavity and pin for future servicing. Pin design is optimized with a channel to provide a path for grease to migrate to the wear surface. The housing is completed with a Viton Seal at the bottom to prevent anything from contaminating the ball joint.
