Reservoir Technology Keeps Damping Under Control

Bilstein builds the B8 5160 around a nitrogen infused 46mm monotube design that uses a floating dividing piston to keep the shock oil and gas separated. This construction helps provide consistent fade free damping as temperatures and suspension demands increase, while the remote reservoirs expand oil capacity and improve heat dissipation. Patented digressive valving reacts quickly to changing surface conditions, allowing the shocks to adapt as the truck moves from smooth pavement to broken roads or uneven terrain. Rather than relying on generic damping characteristics, Bilstein tunes the shocks around the specific vehicle application while accounting for factors such as load, towing demands, and tire pressure. Zinc plating adds exterior durability, while the unique swivel banjo fittings provide 360 degree rotation to help position the reservoir connections during installation. Additionally, four billet reservoir clamps are included to properly secure the front and rear reservoir assemblies as part of the complete package. With two front B8 5160 shocks, two rear B8 5160 shocks, and a B8 5100 steering damper, the system provides coordinated damping hardware for 2005-2016 Ford F250 and F350 trucks running 4 to 6 inches of lift.
