The third generation body 6.7L Common Rail Cummins debuted in mid-2007 and continued through 2009. Like the earlier common rail Cummins the 6.7L utilizes a high pressure injection system backed by a CP3 injection pump capable of 24,000+psi of fuel rail pressure. Mid-2007 was the end of the 5.9L and the birth of the 6.7L Cummins in the light duty Dodge pickups. The 07.5-09 6.7L common rail Cummins was a start of a new generation of emission compliance sanctioned by the EPA. For the first time, these trucks and motors were now equipped with Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) systems, multiple catalytic converters and resonators, and a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). Overall programming has been updated to run clean and lean to meet modern day emission standards. The Turbo was changed from a Holset HE351CW fixed vein turbo to a Holset HE351VE Variable Vein Turbo (VGT) to further tune for emission standards. The 07.5-09 6.7L Dodge Cummins Trucks walked away from the 47/48re four-speed auto transmissions and went with the Chrysler built six-speed 68RFE automatic transmission. The 68rfe transmission had a few benefits, but has issues holding up to the horsepower and torque that the 6.7L Cummins pushes out. The 07.5-09 trucks continued to use the G56 manual transmissions fronted with a dual mass flywheel wheel that kept the clutch noise down, but once the flywheel springs weaken and ware out, it can create detrimental issues. The 07.5-09 Dodge diesel trucks kept the 2006 style third gen body style, changing only a few minor details such as rear tail light design and Ram logo design. The suspension stayed pretty similar with the “Y-style” steering linkage which had “death wobble” issues, until 2009 when Dodge upgraded the steering linkage to a “T-Style” and moved the pivot point from the drag link to a full length tie rod bar.
